Scope note
Japanese porcelain manufactured in Kaga Province, now part of Ishikawa Prefecture from 1655 to 1704 and again from 1807 to the present. Older productions are typically tableware in dark overglazed enamels, the bodies being coarse-grained and the glazes varying from dull to shiny. Later productions feature more eclectic, colorful, and intricate designs.
